Prelude and Bringing in the Light

Call to Worship

One: Come, join the Lenten journey!
All: We hear the call to walk with Jesus.
One: Come, hear the stories!
All: Listening to all the ways they can help us see our lives.
One: For in the everyday nature of our lives,
All: Great meaning is present.
One: And so we celebrate the gift of life,
All: And the stories that we are helping create.

Hymn of Praise    “Welcome”     W&S 3152

Let’s walk together for a while and ask where we begin
to build a world where love can grow and hope can enter in,
to be the hands of healing
and to plant the seeds of peace,

Singing welcome, welcome to this place.
You’re invited to come and know God’s grace.
All are welcome
the love of God to share
’cause all of us are welcome here;
all are welcome in this place.

Let’s talk together of a time
when we will share a feast,
where pride and power kneel to serve
the lonely and the least,
and joy will set the table
as we join our hands to pray,

Singing welcome, welcome to this place.
You’re invited to come and know God’s grace.
All are welcome
the love of God to share
’cause all of us are welcome here;
all are welcome in this place.

Let’s dream together of the day
when earth and heaven are one,
A city built of love and light,
the new Jerusalem,
Where our mourning turns to dancing,
ev’ry creature lifts its voice!

Crying welcome! welcome to this place.
You’re invited to come and know God’s grace.
All are welcome
the love of God to share
’cause all of us are welcome here;
all are welcome in this place.

Music Ministry – A Hymn Medley by William Hinkie, viola
William chose these hymns for their meaning and musicality. He asked for the text to be shared.

Blessed Assurance –
Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine!
O what a foretaste of glory divine!
Heir of salvation, purchase of God,
born of his Spirit, washed in his blood.

This is my story, this is my song,
praising my Savior, all the day long;
this is my story, this is my song,
praising my Savior all the day long.

Old Rugged Cross-
On a hill far away stood an old rugged cross,
the emblem of suffering and shame;
and I love that old cross where the dearest and best
for a world of lost sinners was slain.

So I’ll cherish the old rugged cross,
till my trophies at last I lay down;
I will cling to the old rugged cross,
and exchange it some day for a crown.

Here I Am Lord-
I the lord of sea and sky
I have heard my people cry
All who dwell in dark and sin
My hand will save

I have made the stars of night
I will make their darkness bright
Who will bear my light to them?
Whom shall i send?

Here I am Lord. Is it I Lord?
I have heard You calling in the night
I will go Lord, If You lead me
I will hold Your people in my heart

Prayers of the People
The Lord’s Prayer TFWS 2278

Hymn of Preparation “Lord Who Throughout These Forty Days”     UMH 269

Lord, who throughout these forty days,
For us did fast and pray,
Teach us with you to mourn our sins,
And close by you to stay.

As you with Satan did contend,
And did the vict’ry win,
O give us strength in you to fight,
In you to conquer sin.

As you did hunger bear and thirst,
So teach us, gracious Lord,
To die to self, and always live
By your most holy word.

And through these days of penitence,
And through your Passiontide,
Forevermore, in life and death,
O Lord, with us abide.

Abide with us that when this life
Of suffering is past,
An Easter of unending joy
We may attain at last!

Offertory Prayer
In response to the love you have given us, God, we offer here what we have, what we do, and even more who we are, that our generosity might transform the world.

Doxology             UMH 95

Sending Prayer

God of Life, we seek your help as we continue this Lenten journey. We seek to know life in a deeper, more meaningful way. As we hear the stories of Jesus, may we find a place of connection and understanding. In his life journey, may we encounter love, acceptance, justice, and hope in ways that shape our journeys. Amen.

Hymn      “You Are Mine”     TFWS 2218

I will come to you in the silence
I will lift you from all your fear
You will hear My voice
I claim you as My choice
Be still, and know I am near

I am hope for all who are hopeless
I am eyes for all who long to see
In the shadows of the night,
I will be your light
Come and rest in Me

Do not be afraid, I am with you
I have called you each by name
Come and follow Me
I will bring you home
I love you and you are mine

I am strength for all the despairing
Healing for the ones who dwell in shame
All the blind will see, the lame will all run free
And all will know My name

Do not be afraid, I am with you
I have called you each by name
Come and follow Me
I will bring you home
I love you and you are mine

I am the Word that leads all to freedom
I am the peace the world cannot give
I will call your name, embracing all your pain
Stand up, now, walk, and live

Do not be afraid, I am with you
I have called you each by name
Come and follow Me
I will bring you home
I love you and you are mine
