Care for Our Common Home

Season of Creation: Care for Our Common Home

Here at Highlands UMC, we focus on caring for the earth daily. Each year, however, we make a special effort to observe the Season of Creation as a liturgical season. Join us this July as we study the Pope’s 2015 encyclical letter, Laudato Si’: On Care for Our Common Home. As Denver’s first church to be certified a Green Business by Certifiably Green Denver, we commit to serving our local and global environments year-round. Our building itself includes many eco-friendly features. We host a zero-landfill coffee hour after worship each week. In addition, the Green Team furthers our efforts with gardening, classes, and events like Bike-to-Church Day. Learn more about our commitment to ecological stewardship here.

More About Laudato Si’

Pope Francis writes: “It is good for humanity and the world at large when we believers better recognize the ecological commitments which stem from our convictions” (paragraph 64). The Pope’s letter covers a wide range of topics. Ultimately, it invites us to examine ourselves and our relationship to creation. Join us as we learn from this book and from scripture throughout the month.
