“Building a Home Where All Belong…On a foundation of love and service.” Here at Highlands UMC, we work daily to put our faith into action. We strive to improve our neighborhood and wider community through active involvement outside our building. Within our walls, we seek to create a home for ALL people (see our statement of inclusivity here, and more of our guiding principles here). Join us in our mission to make the world a better place! See below for details on our ministries, or check out our Helping Hands page for the latest specific service opportunities. Have questions or want to get involved? Email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
In partnership with Family Promise, Highlands UMC provides housing in our building for families in transition out of homelessness. Few shelters allow families to be together, and we’re happy to be able to meet this need while supporting people getting back into employment and housing. In addition to providing housing, we partner with Lakewood UMC to provide food and transportation for monthly family dinners.
PB & J Ministry
On the fourth Saturday of each month, we gather to share food and fellowship with those in need. We meet at the church at 10:45am to make sack lunches, and then head over to Civic Center Park to give out lunches and other supplies. See our calendar for the next opportunity!
Caring for our environment – both locally and globally – is a top priority at Highlands UMC. The Green Team meets periodically throughout the year, usually on Sundays after the worship service. In addition, the Green Team sponsors special events year-round, such as Bike-to-Church Day, garden cleanup, Highlands Harvest, and gardening seminars. We also collect produce from the church garden to donate to local food banks. Our next event is the Spring Garden Cleanup on Saturday, May 6th at 9am. All are invited to make music with us! Check out our Music Ministry page for more information.
The Hospitality Team welcomes newcomers and takes care of the congregation by hosting our weekly coffee hour following worship. They make sure everyone attending Sunday worship feels warmly welcomed and comfortable, and that there’s enough coffee and food to go around! Team members sign up to help serve food and clean up about once a month.
Ushering & Greeting
If you’re friendly, this ministry might be perfect for you! At each service, we rely on volunteers to welcome people, hand out bulletins, and guide guests to their seats. Ushers and greeters help us to give a great first impression to new visitors and continue to connect with regular members every week. Email us to sign up to help once a month, or visit our Easter page on Helping Hands to sign up for Easter morning!
