Yesterday, Highlands UMC joined several other United Methodist congregations from around Denver in the annual Pride Parade! We proudly shared the hopeful message that God loves ALL people. From “thank you” to “Jesus loves us all,” we heard countless happy reactions to our positive banner, t-shirts, and friendly faces. Thanks to everyone who marched and all those who offered their support. We extend special gratitude to Dan Willis, who worked very hard to make sure our church was well-organized, eye-catching, and full of joy as we walked in the parade!
While many congregants walked in the Pride Parade, many others gathered for weekly worship at church. This service featured a summer hymn sing, the Pride candle liturgy and lighting, and special music. Thank you to Dixie Darr, William Hinkie, Esther Campbell, Linda Miller, and Nhi Huynh for leading a meaningful worship service in Rev. Brad’s absence. Highlands UMC is blessed with the immense, diverse gifts of so many congregational leaders.
Finally, Rev. Brad and Ashley Hawkins have represented our congregation at the Rocky Mountain Annual Conference this week. On Sunday morning, they worshipped with United Methodist clergy from all over the region. It was also formally announced that Rev. Brad has been appointed to serve the people of Highlands UMC for another year! We offer thanks for the compassionate and capable leadership of Pastor Brad, Ashley, and the many others who work together to Build a Home Where All Belong.
