HIGHLANDS UMC PARENTS' DAY OUT NEWSLETTERFebruary 2010"When I approach a child, he inspires in me two sentiments; tenderness for what he is, and respect for what he may become."
- Louis Pasteur
January flew by so rapidly I did not get out a newsletter. It was a month of new beginnings for some: Ronnie has a baby brother, Sam, born on New Year's Day! And new adventure for others as Aaron leaves PDO for preschool only to be replaced by three new little girls. Plenty of change, adjustment and growing are taking place as our toddlers explore and learn about the world around them.
We are continuing our exploration of the calendar, counting, seasons and holidays. You can sing the days of the week with your child to the tune of “Oh My Darling, Clementine.” We have also been busy creating snowflakes and snowmen. Did you know that a snowflake has six branches or arms? You and your child might want to look at some beautiful photographs of snowflakes on the site, www.SnowCrystals.com. This month we will be making special Valentine projects. The week of February 8th through the 11th the children will be decorating their own cookies. We invite you to join us at 11:45 to share their delicious creations and enjoy the company of the other parents and teachers. Siblings and grandparents are also welcome. The second half of February we will be reading “The Gingerbread Boy” story and creating projects related to that tale. Your thoughtfulness about your child’s attendance during the cold and flu season has been appreciated. We have had plenty of coughs and runny noses, but nothing serious. I am so impressed about how well the children cough into their sleeve, use tissues and love to wash their hands! Unfortunately, due to our full class size, we cannot make up missed classes.
I look forward to seeing you on Valentine’s week and being with your little ones every week! Julie Sexton
