Categories: Church,Events,Highlands News,Uncategorized

The Highlands United Methodist Church offers a monthly book club on Second Mondays at 6:30 p.m. The next meeting is May 12th.  Join the fun discussing the current book, Bill Bryson’s Life and Times of the Thunderbolt Kid.  New members are gladly welcomed. This is an intergenerational group that makes their way through a variety of genres. The group picks the next month’s book each time they are together. We can always use ideas for new books to explore.  Hope to see you there!  For more info you can contact

    Hi all,
I enjoyed our book club gathering last night. We talked a bit about ”The Life and Times of the Thunderbolt Kid” by Bill Bryson. The book made me laugh and remember.
We have identified the books for both June and July.
June will be ”Heaven is for Real” by Todd Burpo with a possible follow-up of watching the movie together.
July will be ”Gone Girl” by Gillian Flynn
We also came up with a proposed list for the following several months. We would love any feedback and additions to this list. Additional participants for some or all book discussions would be grand. The proposed list is the following:
    ”To Life” Harold Kushner
”The Book Thief” by Markus Zusak
”A Thousand Splendid Suns” by Khaled Hosseini
”Daughter of Fortune” by Isabel Allende
    ”The Goldfinch” by Donna Tartt
”The Fault of Our Stars” by John Green
”A Tree Grows in Brooklyn” by Betty Smith
    Really so so many possibilities.
Do give a holler if you would like more information or add to this list.
    Blessings and Wonder
